Beauty Only Sleeps

Inspired by a friend who wrote of the death of beauty here.

When the world grows dark and ugly
And hope seems all forsworn
Do not fear the battle
Hope can be reborn.

The sneering voices chatter
And run fair Beauty down,
But their gabble cannot shatter
Her shinning golden crown.

Her truth in every heartbeat
She lurks in dawn and day
And no bitter witch can kill her
Just, for a time, lock her away.

When lying wizards wheedle
And wicked kings declaim
Bold princes thread the needle
And still speak out her name.

The maidens still remember
Each man still memory keeps
Of the Beauty none can shatter:
Beauty only sleeps.
