The Two Faces of Beauty

Some thoughts on beauty on a bit of a tangent from Friday.

Beauty is two maidens
Both bring light and joy
Together they bring wonder
And shining hope employ.

The first delights the eyes
We drink in all she shows
The second reaches deeper
To what the spirit knows.

They both must go together
And often offer simple fair
When they’re rent asunder
There comes a strange despair.

The first grows cold and distant
Her joys are not for you!
The second turns ever inward
Caged where light does not show through.

Apart they bring shallow comfort
To the souls they seek to save,
And if left long apart
They lead spirits to the grave.

So do not shun the glory
Of either maiden’s light
The eyes and soul together
Bring them through the night.
