A river rambles, will you follow to hear what he says?
Below the stone the water goes
Slow and low where no light shows.
Far away o’er mount and vale
Where longing voices loudly wail.
Through canyons carved in ancient stone
And willow boughs that weep alone,
The steady flow carves courses deep
And sings the waiting stones to sleep.
The sleeping stones dream of day
And ancient worlds now passed away,
And still the river tumbles on
Bearing tales and whispered song.
Through gladdened plain bright to see
The river meets a jubilee.
The heavy songs of dark and stone
Are joined by joy that none can own.
And so he flows down to the sea
From dark of stone through shading tree
And whispers there all he learned
At every bend and every turn.
